Humane Education
The Liberty Humane Society strives to foster a community of compassion and respect through our Humane Education program that teaches children to treat animals with kindness.
- Sharing Sam (Pre-K - kindergarten). Through props and engaging conversation, children will learn how to properly care for a pet dog or cat.
- Dogs, Cats, & Big Kids Video Presentation (Kindergarten - Grade 3). Video covers safety tips when children encounter a stray or aggressive animal.
- Friend for Life Video Presentation (Kindergarten - Grade 4). Video covers the responsibility of owning and caring for a pet.
- Bite Free Video Presentation (Kindergarten - Grade 5). Told from a dog's point of view, this video helps children and parents understand why dogs may bite and simple steps to avoid being bitten.
- Paws, Claw, Feathers & Fin Video Presentation (Kindergarten - Grade 6). This fun and upbeat video prepares children for the responsibility of owning a pet and briefly discusses the pet overpopulation problem.
- Oh, the Pets You Can Get (Kindergarten - Grade 3) Dr. Suess' book explains to children what each pet needs to be properly cared for, the time commitment pets need and the importance of adopting a pet from a shelter.
- The Lorax (Grades 1 - 3). After reading Dr. Suess' popular book, a discussion will be held on how to protect the environment and endangered species.
- Animals Helping People (Grade 1 - 4). After reading a book about a therapy dog, we will discuss different jobs animals have and how dogs help humans on a daily basis.
- The Power of Compassion Video Presentation (Grades 9 - Adult). Video overview of how humans originally domesticated dogs and cats. Examines the current state of humane/companion animal relations.
