Cat Socialization
Volunteers spend quality time with the cats in order to enrich their lives while living at the shelter. Most volunteers provide 2-5 hours per week of time playing and/or petting and brushing the kittens/cats.
Scheduling is flexible and volunteers can come whenever the shelter staff is present.
Dog Socialization
Dog socialization includes dog walking and general handling, elementary obedience training focusing on good manners, bathing and grooming, and socialization.
Volunteers spend a few hours per week getting the dogs out of the shelter environment and outside for some “freedom”. In addition you can help carry out our program, Operation Take Me Home, by taking a shelter dog wearing an "adopt me" vest into the community.
Scheduling is flexible and volunteers can come whenever the shelter staff is present.
Adoption Counselor
Volunteers assist the public in the selection of a dog or cat that will fit their needs and lifestyle. The adoption counselor discusses adoption policy and procedure with potential adopters.
Adoption Counselor volunteers will be trained in adoption advising, off-site adoption procedures, and basic animal handling/cleaning. Volunteers can come to the shelter whenever the staff is present or participate in outside adoptions at remote locations. The shelter will provide volunteers with additional training on screening forms and adoption contracts.
Office Support
Volunteers provide clerical support for the shelter staff. This includes answering phones, keeping track of lost and found animals, completing adoption paperwork, and providing general animal care information to the public as well as data input of animal records.
Computer knowledge is helpful and good customer service skills are a must.
Web photographer and profile writer
Our website is a good resource for the Liberty Humane Society to promote its available pets. We are looking for volunteers who would like to take digital photos of our dogs and cats as well as write short profiles for our website. Patience is a must for this volunteer position as it can be challenging to get a suitable picture of any animal.
Skilled Labor
The shelter is currently paving its way to designing a new state of the art shelter. We need the expertise of carpenters, architects, licensed electricians, and licensed plumbers to assist in making our shelter dream come true. Volunteers would also help maintain the current shelter environment.
