Liberty Humane Society is changing the future for homeless pets in black during national ‘Back in Black 2’ adoption promotion

Jersey City, NJ May 2, 2012 ─ Who are they? They are the dogs and cats in black. What is their mission? To find their forever home.

Black cats and dogs everywhere are donning their dark glasses and engaging their “flashy things” to wipe out the myths and stereotypes regarding black animals in this national Back in Black adoption campaign. Between May 1 and May 31, Liberty Humane will be featuring adoptable black dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Throughout the month, we’ll be offering 50% off of adoption fees for all black cats and dogs.

Supported by national animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal Society®, Liberty Humane Society and about 100 animal rescue groups and shelters across the country are participating in this massive adoption promotion. Last year, the Back in Black adoption event was introduced to showcase black dogs and cats and give them the best chance at being adopted. More than 900 pets found homes nationwide.

This year, Gunner, Liv, and the rest of the furry super-agents at Liberty Humane Society are ready to show off their personalities and dashing good looks to prospective adopters during the "Back in Black 2" adoption promotion.

“Even though they do make wonderful pets with great personalities, black dogs and cats are often overlooked for adoption, but why is that? After all, the color of a pet's fur has no relationship to their ability to provide unconditional love, companionship and devotion,” said Irene Borngraeber. “True it can be a bit of a challenge getting a good photo of a black cat or dog—all the more reason to come meet them at Liberty Humane Society and find out what makes our pets in black special.”

This adoption event is part of Best Friends Animal Society’s mission of No More Homeless Pets®. Liberty Humane Society is a participating member of the No More Homeless Pets® Network, a program of Best Friends Animal Society, which offers help and support to animal rescue groups that save lives in their communities.
