Spay/Neuter
Liberty Humane Society offers several low cost spay/neuter options to individuals looking to have animals surgically sterilized. Please read the description of each of our programs to determine which best suits your needs.
Owned Cat Spay/Neuter
Spay/Neuter appointments can be made for owned cats several times each month with Distemper and Rabies vaccinations available at no additional cost.
Cats must be dropped off the day of the appointment between 7:30 am and 8:00 am and picked up between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm the same day. All cats being dropped off for surgery must be contained in a hard case carrier and only one animal may be in each carrier. If you do not have a carrier for your cat, please visit the shelter prior to your appointment to borrow one of ours. We will not be able to accept your pet for spay/neuter if it it brought in a box, cardboard carrier, soft carrier, or other container. (Food and water must be kept out of reach of your pet after Midnight the night before the surgery appointment and no food or water should be given to your pet the morning of surgery either.)
Please call the shelter at (201) 547-4147 for details on upcoming spay/neuter dates.
Fees must be paid in full at the time of drop off and are as follows:
males: $80
females: $85
pregnant females: $100
*Please note if a female cat is found to be pregnant at the time of surgery, the owner is responsible for the entire $100 whether they were aware of her pregnancy or not.
Reduced Fees for Individuals on Assistance
Individuals on Public Assistance (includes Family First, SSI, Welfare, etc.) are able to have male or female cats spayed or neutered for just $30. This fee includes Distemper and Rabies vaccinations at no additional cost. Reduced fee appointments are limited and contingent upon available funding.
Feral Cat Spay/Neuter
Spay/Neuter appointments for feral cats can be made several times each month with Distemper and Rabies vaccinations available at no additional cost (please call). Cats must be dropped off the day of the appointment between 7:30am and 8am and picked up the same day between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. We are unable to provide overnight boarding for surgical patients.
Ideally, feral cats should be trapped the night before surgery and food withheld after trapping. If trapping the morning of surgery, LHS recommends using as little food as possible to minimize the chance of complications during surgery. Feral cats being dropped off for surgery must be contained in either a cat carrier or humane cat trap. Trappers should not expect LHS to transfer their cat out of a trap at any point. If you are in need of a humane cat trap, the shelter has traps available for rent with a $50 refundable deposit.
All feral cats undergoing spay/neuter surgery through LHS must receive a mandatory ear tip. Find out more about ear tipping here.
Fees must be paid in full at the time of drop off and are as follows:
males: $65
females: $70
pregnant females: $100
*Please note if a female cat is found to be pregnant at the time of surgery, the trapper is responsible for the entire $100 whether they were aware of her pregnancy or not.
